Welcome to Retkietappi's homepage!

The holiday village Retkietappi is located in Juuma, a scenic village 46 km north from Kuusamo in North-East Finland. The starting point of a famous day-route Pieni Karhunkierros Trail is located in the Juuma village. Here you can experience the genuine tranquillity of the untouched wilderness.

The Juuma tourist area is situated by the edge of the wilderness, by the River Kitkajoki, next to the Oulanka National Park.

Juuma is an idyllic country village surrounded by the rugged beauty of the northern lakeshores.

The tradition of tourism in Juuma started in the beginning of the 20th century, when people were using the waterway from Käylä through Juuma to Paanajärvi on the Russian side.

The famous rapids of Kuusamo, JYRÄVÄ, AALLOKKOKOSKI, MYLLYKOSKI and NISKAKOSKI, are still roiling free in the vicinity of Juuma village, along the Pieni Karhunkierros Trail. Along this famous trail there are several hanging bridges, and on the gulches many very rare plants are found, among them the Calypso (fairy slipper) and Mountain Avens.
